There’s something pretty amazing about waking up in a new destination without having to pack your suitcase again.
That’s one of the reasons I love cruising. You unpack once, settle in, and let the ship take you from one adventure to the next. One morning you might be sipping coffee while pulling into a Caribbean island, and another you could be sailing past glaciers, exploring a European port, or even heading toward Antarctica.
And there really is a cruise for almost everyone.
Love a big vacation with endless restaurants, entertainment, pools, waterslides, and activities? Today’s largest cruise ships are essentially floating resorts, carrying thousands of passengers and offering enough to do that you may forget you’re on a ship.
Prefer something quieter? Smaller ships can carry just a few hundred guests and often visit ports that the giant ships simply can’t access. They can feel more intimate and relaxed, with the destination taking center stage.
Then there’s everything in between. Mid-size and large ships offer a great balance of dining, entertainment, activities, and comfortable spaces to relax without feeling quite as enormous as the newest mega-ships.
The key is choosing the right cruise—not just any cruise.
Ship size, itinerary, cruise line, cabin location, dining style, activities, and even the overall personality of the ship can completely change your experience. What’s perfect for one traveler may be completely wrong for another.
That’s where a little planning makes all the difference.
Whether your idea of joy is cocktails by the pool, exploring ancient cities, watching whales from your balcony, or simply doing absolutely nothing for an afternoon, there’s probably a ship—and an itinerary—that fits you.
